Does anyone else ever feel like life gets so busy that you barely see your significant other? Lately, my partner and I sometimes only get a few minutes together before bed. We try to make up for it on weekends, but even that’s tough when work, job searching, workouts, and social events pile up. It’s made me realize how tricky it can be to stay connected when life gets really busy. How do you make time for each other during those hectic periods?

I think this millennial generation has come to accept the busy lifestyle of a two income household compared to previous generations. You know your SO best so it’ll boil down to random gestures: a fancy computer accessory, a random bouquet of flowers, DoorDash their fav meal (or make it).

But you should definitely take time to acknowledge how busy your lives are and check in occasionally.

Absolutely. It’s a challenge. My wife and I try to find a way to make sure that the time we do spend with each other is focused on each other, although not sure how sustainable that is. Find whatever works.

Totally get that. Trying to make the limited time we do have really count, but it can be hard to keep that up week after week. Still trying to figure out what actually works for us long-term. Glad to hear we’re not the only ones!

We are ships passing in the night at this point. I hate that it is that way but with kids and sports and all the other things, we hardly spend time together except on the weekends. We make sure to have a date night every single Friday to connect with one another.

Oh wow, that really does sound familiar! Some weeks it feels like we’re just roommates passing each other on the way to the next thing. I love that you two have a standing Friday date night though. We might have to steal that idea. Thanks for sharing!

Definitely. Some days its only a few minutes and it takes a toll. We're working on ways to make it more.

It's probably a little easier for us because we don't have kids, but we make the time for each other. We stick to our work hours with the occasional exception so that we can eat dinner together most nights, and we try to have breakfast together as well (though she is more of an early bird and I'm a slice of toast on the run type).

Totally

Hi, I'm an employee at a hotel chain who works remotely. I've been working remotely for over a year now and I love it! The company I work for is very supportive of remote workers, which is great.

But there's one thing that's been bothering me: it's hard to get feedback on my work when I'm not in the office. It would be great if there was some kind of system that let me know how my performance was being evaluated while I'm working on projects from home.

Getting paid 85k base with 40k in bonus plus about 35k~ in OT.

Money isn’t everything but in my late 20s it feels like the only thing important right now.

WLB is next to zero as 60hr weeks are the minimum as of late. Management feels like they are trying to push a few of us out. Was told not to expect much come year end for comp. Any suggestions on finding a new role/pay expectations?

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?

I need help figuring out if I’m being underpaid. I’m working in real estate private equity and I focus on fund models and property valuations. I’m currently at base $80k and 20% bonus. On top of that I have 5 years experience and a masters in finance. I’m good at my job and receive positive reviews from everyone. I feel like I should be compensated better but the company says that’s what they think I’m worth. Any help or insights would be great!

Is IB worth the sacrifice of WLB? Obvious pay is really good but are the prestige and pay worth it if you’re planning on only doing it for a couple years?

Currently working at an IRA with great WLB. Honestly I love my job, the firm, and people I work with.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.

Hello all! I am looking for a job in finance/investments, but I’m having trouble attracting attention from employers. Any advice on how to market myself better and where I should be looking would be greatly appreciated!
