It’s so SO easy to get caught up in the grind and forget about the things that bring us joy. Sometimes, high-paying jobs come with a hidden cost to our mental and emotional well-being. Maybe it’s time for you to reassess priorities and figure out how to carve out time for yourself, even if it's just a little each day?? You deserve that balance.
Bro I don’t even remember what happy feels like at this point
It wasn't worth it to me. That's why I went to industry in my upper 20s. I was part time until recently while I had children. Now I'm a manager and get to WFH and hardly ever do over 40. Time is money, don't ever forget that.
I still have fun and hobbies - they just go on hold a few times a year during critical client weeks. It's the price you pay for a decent paycheck. There is no reason you can't still have hobbies and be in public accounting. I already have my next 3 vacations booked over the next 2 years - it just requires planning.
Pay your dues when you’re young so that you can enjoy life in your upper 30s, young 40s and beyond. As a senior associate, you may be at a time in your life where most people your age stop going out as much and settle down anyways.
Enjoy what, exactly? The partners and MDs I work with work even more than I do. I’m sure the pay is great, but most of them don’t even have time to enjoy it.
That also sounds like a completely natural human response to having to work intense hours for a job with crazy expectations.
Sounds like you’re on the road to burnout. And/or depression. There is SO much more to life than work. You also may not be thinking about what this job is doing to your body and the long term effects on your health.
And when you get advice like you should just “sleep less” lmao… that’s the toxic environment you need to get out of immediately. Talk to your doctor about your sleep patterns and have them decide if you’re getting enough or too much.
Good for everyone else for being able to “hang in”, but if your body/heart/gut is telling you something it would be wise to listen.

Freak in the sheets of course.
Kind of sounds like depression, OP. Might be worth talking to a mental health professional?
You have a high salary??
I know busy season sucks on the joy of my life. It does get slower for me but I work for a smaller company so accounting duties are mixed in with some other duties that would be done by a financial department or human resources department so I’m often working 50 to 60 hours a week so I don’t have a lot of free time but I’m also getting older so I just too tired to do anything
I agree. I am also too tired to enjoy hobbies outside of work. When I do get it together I use my hobbies to recalibrate, I'm not really enjoying the hobby.
I need to work on my social life.
Are you working 80 90 hours every week for the whole year? Outside of busy season, you should have time for yourself.
lol I’m definitely not, I’m at around 120k so the last I tracked I’m hovering a little under $30 an hour as a senior. I’m not at my current job for the comp now, I’m here for the potential later.
My fun and hobbies are reading Fishbowl for the entertaining questions and responses. Like this one.

I've never not been able to do my hobbies. I have always prioritized them. Yes I work in PA. Start making time and fitting it into the hours you have available. Or stop sleeping so much
Does anybody remember laughter?
