So I just recently passed my CPA exams and I’m now looking for new opportunities. I’m hoping to work at a big 4 firm in tax and possibly connect with anyone working there right now. Please reach out to me, I would look forward to connecting and learning more about potential opportunities. Thanks!EY PwC Deloitte KPMG

McKinsey & Company I am joining the McKinsey & Company Boston office in late July and searching for housing in the meantime. If I could get some insight on the ratio of days in the office vs work from home that would be super helpful!
If I need to come into the office regularly I will try to find a place close by.

It’s over
Bcg used this to just cull people after terrible business cycles and over hiring. I would ask around and see if that is potentially occuri g at mck in which case chance of survival is very low unfortunately
OP - based on what you’ve said - yes I think this is a push out very similar to what my cohort got when business died and utilization became an issue. Def just stay and coast if you think you can handle the strain and look for a job so you get more search time as a result. But don’t kid yourself about trying to make it work - we did and we got pushed out in droves despite glowing reviews from recent teams all bc there were too many at the PL/P level (EM/AP I guess?)
It is a huge toll to work extra hard under this pressure and better to be prepared by having your finances, visa etc lined up. So take the time to “prep” and coast
Go on 6month Mental Health leave and use the time to recruit - several folks I know have done that at McK
I needed STD post a family death at one given point. I definitely needed it, I was non functional day to day. The 8 week STD reduced my utilization and I came back to the surprise of my rating going from 4 to 2 (Concerns, and this is back in 2023 when utilization wasn’t a concept).
That experience really opened my eyes that the firm would give such ratings to its employees for not meeting arbitrary thresholds (12 weeks back then for ratings protection, which HR conveniently didn’t tell me). The firm just wanted to force people out to cut costs without putting out a news article on layoffs, and good/bad performers both were going to get the brunt of it.
I left on concerns enjoying extended search/garden leave, and landed okay on my feet in another job with no pay loss. After that experience, I always recommend current McK folks to maximize all their benefits and optimize for themselves. People shouldn’t abuse the mental health benefits and now McK has stringent guardrails on paperwork anyway, but get what you can from any consulting firm coz when it’s time for you to be cut like dead weight, consulting firms won’t consider something different another time. In that context, P1’s advice is unethical yeah but it isn’t wrong - people are trying to survive and extend their time to job hunt in a bad market. People have dependents. They wouldn’t need to do this if firms wouldn’t overhire and then force them out to save money.
Garden leave package.
Don’t all McK consulting exits get garden leave packages? BCG has “transition” benefits, at least for everyone in the U.S., and you can take them whether you leave in good standing or not.
Do you want to stay in consulting? What’s your likelihood of making it back to good from PMP?
If the answer to the first is no, then use the time now to start looking outside, before you officially start McKinsey’s “search” time. If the answer is yes and low, then it’s up to you how much you want to hustle and scrape to make it back vs looking externally. If the answer is yes and high, then spend your time hustling to get a study rather than externally.
