Fam, need an advice. Asking for a close friend. He has 2 offers 1. Jpmc: ctc 21 lakhs(excludes bonuses) 2. Morgan stanley through third party: ctc 27 lakhs (includes everything) Which is better in terms of career growth, job security? Work is sort of similar in both. #Morgan Stanley #JPMorgan Chase
McKinsey & Company How likely is McKinsey to rescind an offer if there's a recession/downturn before my start date? Received an Associate offer with a start date early in the Fall. But I'm worried about the offer being rescinded due to the ongoing McK scandals/issues and a potential recession in the making (which may prompt them to freeze hiring and/or renege offers).
Has this happened to anyone before at McKinsey, offer getting rescinded due to economic/company downturn? A bit worried

How is performance measured at MBB?
McKinsey & Company Hey folks!
Was wondering what sort of life sciences projects does usually the Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey & Company take on?
Commercial, access and pricing, M&A, transformation, implementation? (all of them perhaps?)
Basically, what would someone with an LS background be mainly working on in these firms on a day-to-day basis?
Thanks!

If you really want to recruit, I would say network extensively to try and get a more senior person to refer you so you can re interview during campus hire season. You’re alas not going to be able to come in other than through that this year unless you apply for a specialist / expert type role, eg. BCG DV that happens to be open or expanding.

It’s a good play, as B1 said start date may be out of whack and you’ll have to explain a few things all at the same time. My suggestion is wait and watch, if the world rights itself more and quickly, there may be a change in hiring perspective and you can capitalize on that, but realistically just stick out one year and try to lateral.
MBB is pushing out start dates in some markets, so recruiting for a 2020 start isn’t really going to work (especially with structured campus recruiting cycles). To recruit for 2021, you’re in a bit of a gray zone, especially if you’ve graduated - it’s going to be tough to make a case for OCR when you’re not a student anymore, given school policy. Off cycle/lateral recruiting is also going to be tricky given that you would only have <1 YOE by that stage, and most firms will want to rely on campus recruiting vs take another chance on someone a year out who didn’t make it through a few years back. Nothing against you - just speaking from an efficiency POV. Also, most new hires at the UG level start with the fall 2021 class vs on a random earlier month, so you’ll also want something to do during that time off.
Lateraling is possible but pretty tough - most folks I know who have done it have had specific circumstances and 2 YOE, but then started at the new hire first year analyst role. The reality is that many firms like homegrown analysts at the post-UG level and don’t have much incentive to look elsewhere so there is no structured process. That said, worth keeping an eye out and getting back in touch with the recruiters you worked with during this last cycle to see.
I know that’s not great news, but I’d be happy about your current offer and not look backwards too much! The firms you mentioned are great firms that will set you up well for the future. I’d think more about what you want to do after your analyst years - stay in consulting? Go to a startup? PE/VC? b school (and then what)? The answers will change once you start work, but kickstarting that reflection will help you make the most of your first few working years.
Absolutely - good luck! You should have strong chances at a Parthenon/OW/LEK type firm for PE (and can leverage some of the same due diligence skills for VC roles), FWIW. And all of the firms you mention would be great places to either lateral from, head to business school from, or even stay at long-term for your career, too. So plenty of great options 😊
What was your academic profile?
GPA (3.6-3.8 range), High SAT/ACT, lots of leadership experience (founded a prominent org, VP of another), several internships

So are you trying to recruit for MBB 2020 and accelerate your start date or recruit for 2021 and accept a next summer start date? 2020 would be impossible but even 2021 would be pretty difficult. You would likely need to prove that something changed from UG. I would likely stick it out for a year at your T2 firm and then try and lateral.
Got it, appreciate you responding! In terms of lateraling do you happen to know what are the necessary steps to make that possible? Is it done through online job applications or internal connections?
