First step: go to PMI.ORG to check your eligibility to take the exam. Next, you need to record certain hours of learning, there are plenty of options available (you can learn without breaking your bank. Example, Skillsoft, LinkedinLearning, etc). For books, I recommend “head first PMP” or “PMP exam prep by Rita Mulcahy”.
(If your employer can pay for the exam and training (full or partial amount) - attend a PMBoot camp or training program where you can get more knowledge from the instructor and other classmates. It helps to gain knowledge but not mandatory. Most consulting companies pay. Some have their own training program.)
Allocate time every week or day, and take the exam immediately after studying.
I studied on my own for a while but then signed up for PM Master Prep and passed on 1st attempt. For me it was a great and interesting way to learn the material…not memorize but learn and retain.
