Anyone recently received a tax manager offer from EY ? I’m going through final interviews and want to see what your experience was like (negotiation process, initial offer higher/lower than expected?, did you give them a salary expectation range? How long did it take from final interview to offer etc) TIA!PwC EY KPMG Deloitte

I’m with you on the long hours - I hate them and actively work to not have my people work long hours consistently. I want to spend as much time as possible outside the office and encourage others to do the same.
I worked some with the group you referenced. After that experience, I wanted nothing to do with it. AI is churn & burn boring compliance work where not much is learned for clients who want to always pay bottom dollar. I got out of that group ASAP and focused much more on portfolio companies & private companies.
I’d look into a different group if possible. Maybe Private Clients or whatever they are calling it now so you don’t have the AI churn or provision crunch time, but still get solid experience and exposure.
I’d also be honest with your PML and/or mentor where your head is at (or someone else at the partner level you’re comfortable talking to).
Your first year at manager will be tough. There is just so much that’s new - from managing WIPs to engagement teams, it’ll be overwhelming at times. However, one of the biggest things that’s kept me in public, is that after that first year or two, you run your own schedule.
What’s decent $? As a new manager in AI, it’ll probably be around $95k (little more if on coasts). New senior manager is around $125k and MD is at $200k.
That being said, I’d be open to other positions with better hours and salary + benefits. It’s tough with kids & public accounting, but definitely can be done. I’ve put MD & thought of partner on the back burner to focus on my family - you only get one chance when they are little and they grow up so fast. Also, a HUGE thing that’s kept me in public is that I pretty much can do whatever I want whenever I want and have an awesome team.
I’m in the same boat as you minus the child. Interested to hear what other have to say. Good luck OP!
Have you thought about talking to your PML. Try to see if they can work out a reduced schedule for you?
Totally hear you. I would honestly start looking at other opportunities within the firm or if you want to get out, into industry. No matter what upper management will say, the hours will not get better. Hope it all works out for you!
