In my case, I have no regrets. You must evaluate if you will have the right compensation for the responsibility you are going to assume. If not, then you must evaluate the situation very well.
I do miss the sense of camaraderie that came from being on the same level as the rest of the workers, but I'd be lying if I said the perks weren't worth it.
Have you ever held any sort of supervisor or manager role anywhere else? Maybe you've had to step up as a leader for a project? If so, look back at what that was like and consider if you enjoyed it or not
No, I have never regretted accepting a promotion to management. There are a few things to consider before saying yes, however. Mostly, make sure you are comfortable with managing people and dealing with the various challenges that come with the role. Compensation should be also good
Actually, yes. I used to work for one of the larger firms in my area and thought that moving up in the food chain would be a positive change; it wasn't though, it's like my former colleagues thought I was a traitor that had just switched over to the dark side or something. IDK. It was very demoralizing. Ended up taking a pay cut just to get out of that situation when I switched employers, easily the best decision I've made in the last 10 years
Doesn't matter what they offered to pay me, I would never want to be responsible for managing people. Just not in my comfort zone. If you are good at taking decisive action and motivating people, then you would probably do well as a manager
Management isn't so much of a change as many people make it out to be, in my opinion, as long as you know your job then you will be able to help others learn it. And teaching is one of the most important things to do as a manager.
