Does anyone have tips on applying to companies for PM roles? I’m finding that just dropping a resume isn’t working so well and actually getting a referral has better results. Would it be better to make connections on LinkedIn? If anyone has done this, was it easy to find/make connections/people were receptive?

Getting a referral is key. Didn't get any hits until I was referred by a friend. Most companies have very generous referral policies so don't be afraid to ask! I reminded an old coworker I could refer her and she has her 2nd interview next week 😊
The key thing to remember is most referrals will get you in the door but after that, it's up to you!

If someone applies to a job I have posted, I am more likely to look for their resume if they took the initiative to send me a LinkedIn message. I view it like a mini-cover letter. They tell me why they can bring something specific to this role and it’s a good foot in the door. Even if it’s two sentences. I’m not sure how rare I am, but I try to do my part because I know it’s hard to drop a cold resume.

Go to meet ups in your area, conferences, etc. Make friends and build out the network that way. Alternatively if you have a specific area you’re interested in working in and are passionate about, talk to people in that space on ideas about that space and build your network out that way.

You should also look into associations. They usually have a job board and close connections to those companies

I made some great connections on LinkedIn. It was weird at first, but a few people I still actually stay in regular touch with, and I've gotten leads from. Worth a shot!

Honestly linkedin premium and the standard cold applying. Has worked for me every time. Being an introvert I never network or reach out to folks and when I do it has never resulted in interviews….

Are you just applying to everything? If you like the company, apply for things you maybe over qualified for. This allows your resume to be picked up. If you are constantly just applying to jobs where the responsibilities aren’t over aligning then you may continue to experience this.

Look into a PM role in your line of work at Deloitte. Will be an easier transition because you’ve got a ton of customer engagement via projects

I found a company I was really excited about working at. I applied for the job and went through 5 rounds of interviews. At the end they said I was OVER qualified and they want me for a different position higher up in the company. I was super excited they then had me go through 5 more rounds, 3/5 people were the same. The interviews mostly went "didn't you get the job, I highly recommend you? I'll just put you down as a 10". After those were done they told me I was UNDER qualified. Can't win!

I just got an offer from a company that I have mixed feelings about. Team seems great but Glassdoor reviews, not so much. I’m currently interviewing with a couple of other companies that are amazing and would be my too choices. However, I’m very early in the process so it will probably take a month or so to get to the offer stage with them. I don’t want to fall between two chairs for not taking this offer and then not getting any from other companies. What should I do? Best strategy?
