Lots of money and a willingness to ignore the collapse of the industry.
One account that you believe could sustain you long term
Define agency. The old model appears to be dying, try something new.
Probably 500K to get you through the first year and a half, if you play it lean and manage to get a tent pole client in the first year.
Stay lean, don’t play agency and over leverage to look the part.
A high degree of insanity.
Depends what you're after but the main thing you need is the balls to jump. We started with nothing. It helps if you can survive for a while without a decent income, but you don't need too much either. The fear of running dry is an excellent motivator to get things going.
How much money? Let’s say I have a backer. And a fairly unique POV
It’s getting that first client ...
Take the time to understand what motivates people and brands to come together, then find a way to make that happen. If you find that way, then build a business out of that. Keep in mind it's not the artistry or understanding of people that has changed, it is the way people want to be approached and the way companies can engage with them that has. The message is not about product, the message is about purpose. And, all of this drivel is simply one person's opinion.
Enough money to pay your salary, plus other people’s salaries, plus rent in whatever city you’re in, computers, etc. So, a zillion dollars?
What might a new agency look like then?
Depends what your values are. If you are focused on money then you will need that. If you want something else then make sure you have plenty of it. Call me. We can discuss. 🙂
