It is the pinnacle of American hedonism. Cheap culture, gaudy, and full of vices.
I went there a bunch for vacation. Loved it. Great food scene, gambling, pretty easy airport, lots of things to do, warmer climate, cheaper cost of living overall, no income state tax. There are definitely cons but those are some things I’m thinking about.

Why are you considering Vegas? Genuinely curious. Went to school with people who grew up there but never understood what the motive was.
I am 24f, single with no kids. I have been living in Vegas for about 6months. So far, I like it a lot. There is plenty of entertainment, the weather is decent, Summerlin is a pretty nice area, the food is good, a lot of people enjoy hiking at Mt Charleston. Rent is certainly cheaper than NYC. I have a 2/2 for $1,500 (albeit outdated but spacious). I like the proximity to California since I am from there and it takes me just 4 hours to get back to SoCal. I feel like a lot of non nightlife career people have moved here, and I hope that will cause things like education to improve. I am happy here in my 20s, but if I got married and had kids I would strongly have to consider moving somewhere else due to concerns about the education system (although I know plenty of people who grew up here and turned out fine).
Hey do you mind if I dm you and ask some questions? Are you living in Vegas proper or summerlin or elsewhere?
I’ve heard bad things about the school system. Mainly it ranking fairly low in the US. Something to keep in mind if you want to have kids there. Seems ideal in the short term and if you can work remotely there.
Def agree. Educations system is terrible. Wouldn’t have kids there. More short term.
I live in Phoenix and outside of the strip and in the suburbs is a lot like here
10 year resident here: my only concern was the water situation long-term. Schools are fine if you are districted for the right ones (Henderson, Summerlin) and the only issue I had with was the dating scene. Eventually met my wife so it all worked out.
I also moved to chase my poker dreams and it worked out well. Just stay away from the local rooms on the weeknights and stick to the strip to go after fish when you’re starting out. Lots of great lessons to be learned in the local rooms though.
