Unlicensed staff with 6 years xp in USA is usually around $50k-60k USD, not sure about the Toronto markets as I am Illinois/Wisconsin. For reference I started out of school at $43k with my Masters in Arch and am now at $82k + $10k-18k bonuses depending on how company's profit share is. I'm now licensed at 10 years total xp (5 licensed), keep with it!
Your numbers are pretty low. Maybe staying at the same firm getting 3-5pc raises from your start of $43k adds to those numbers but people make $60k in Tennessee with a bachelor degree. Higher with masters. 10 years experience easily gets base pay above $120k
Also depending on why your company is moving it does seem $65k+ is a fair high end if you're already licensed in NY. As in why did the move happen, did the company close up shop in NY and say the only spot with a job was Toronto, or you asked to relocate maybe not worth the ask. But if the move was out of your control and you were licensed, I would expect to be compensated more as a licensed staff member. Good luck!
I am also licensed in New York, but my firm has offices in Toronto, Vancouver, and a few other cities. NCARB has a reciprocity agreement with all of the Canadian jurisdictions. New York is not a signee to the MRA, however, if you qualify for licensure in a jurisdiction that is, you can get licensed in Ontario on that basis. The process is a bit of pain, but you won’t need to take the ExAC or go through the intern development program again. You will need an NCARB certificate, if you don’t have one yet.

If you’re planning for Toronto to be your home for the long term, this will be really helpful for your career. Quite a few of my colleagues have done this. Although the NCARB cert and the process may cost some money up front, I think it’s well worth it. You can reach out to NCARB and OAA to understand the specific requirements in your case.
Also, salaries are significantly lower in Toronto compared to NYC, roughly 15-20% lower when you convert currency. Cost of housing in relation to salary might be a bit higher, taxes and healthcare are different, so It’s hard to compare apples to apples. The hierarchy of job positions and licensed vs. unlicensed is different in that market as well - at larger firms like ours, certified architectural technologists occupy many of the roles that might be taken by an unlicensed, highly experienced person in the US.
Thank you! Im actually licensed in NY and make around $90k. Just having a hard time guaging the Canadian market.
