All the output seems like a sea of sameness to me after watching it in bulk. Like a certain Stepford Wives gloss or early Instagram filter vibe.
There’s a tier of low level garbage work that will succumb to AI, it’s already happening. But as others have said, more purposeful or advanced storytelling is currently outside the reach of AI and seems likely to remain so for a long time (to say nothing of the legal concerns as well).
AI will probably be felt most in ways that can enhance workflows or speed up processes. Generating backgrounds/stock images/elements, audio fixes, color tweaks, transcriptions, rotoscoping, sorting and organizing, etc. This will kill some jobs and the industry will continue to contract and shift as a result. But still very hard imagine AI completely replacing video creative any time soon. But that won’t stop suits and predatory capitalists from asking “can’t we just AI it?” at every possible juncture and wasting everyone’s time and energy to explain why it’s not that simple.
We have years to go before it’s a consistent viable alternative to video production. It’s powerful and amazing. But, getting it to tell a consistent story with consistent characters is challenging at best. People who create these AI films are letting the tech lead the narrative because of how limiting the actual outputs can be.
To me, most still look like cerebral arthouse pieces.
If you client is legal adverse (like pharma is), then no. Good for showing concept, but right now the IP issue will be a (good) nuisance.
Also, not really since SAG will step in.
I’m hoping it doesn’t catch on. There’s a lot of value in making things “for real”.
An ideal situation is AI helping on things like cleaning up post, fixing audio issues, speeding up VFX workflow. As an actual tool. To get to the same level of work faster. If used in that way, it could create more good content.
If used in the more evil, let’s-replace-the-makers way, much more nefarious/dystopian.
