The main thing some gov workers get over private sector is a fat DB pension. In my experience, private sector is more lucrative overall for high performers at senior levels. For everyone else, gov is pretty great overall comp considering you can do the bare minimum
Short answer, no. I’m in tech, my wife’s a teacher. Health/dental/travel insurance are similar. Just different provider. She’s unionized, I’m not. I make double what she makes. But she works 9 months a year for a six figure salary. I work 11 months a year. And like Deloitte 1 said above - she will have a cash for life pension (60%) and has option to retire at age 56 vs a DCPP that I have where my employer contributes 6% each pay.
