Does working at a well-known company really boost your career long term? I sometimes wonder how much brand-name employers actually matter once you’re a few years into your career. For in house jobs, does the company name on a resume still carry significant weight?

I've found that the reputation of my employer has definitely opened (or closed) doors for me.

like

Then that must be a super well known company!

Big brand implies talents/skills/competence in my experience. Makes lateral changes to other companies especially in the industry easier IMO.

👍

It doesn’t hurt. I have a big name on my resume, and it’s come up a few times during interviews. It can be a great talking point.

like

Great perspective

Having worked someplace noteworthy is almost always a positive, it can confer status and credibility. It can also lead to odd reactions. I once had an interview and the interviewer was more interested in my former employer than me, at least that's how it seemed.

like

Oh wow, maybe the interviewer wants to work for that company

Definitely opens doors, especially if it’s a hard to get in company and hard to stay company. I had one of those in my resume of just 6 months employment and it really helped. Can’t image what several years would do.

Yup

I have been at my company for 3.5 years. One year ago (2.5 years into my employment with them) they re-leveled everyone and I was bumped to an entry level position on the terms that they changed my job title when they re-leveled, so “technically” I am at the early stages of my new title. Even though the job duties did not really change.
I’m not sure the best way to approach this. Has anyone else had a similar experience or know how I should advocate for myself?

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.

Curious if anyone else is or has been in the same boat. I started as an assistant at an entertainment law firm prior to passing the bar. Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate. That was 1.5 years ago and I am still in the limbo of juggling my own workload + doing assistant roles for my supervisors. I have also had no increase in pay, which is a huge deal for me. Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?
