DPW vs S&C? Interested in transactional but likely not M&A. Drawn to S&C's generalist 2 years but hear its particularly sweatshoppy. What is the culture at both firms?

DPW is a bunch of liars. Do not believe a word they say.

This is a no-brainer. DPW. Based on feedback from others (not my own personal experience) DPW has a much more humane culture.

Both will involve working a lot of hours

any other options? just avoid S&C.

Disagree with the above comments. S&C’s generalist model is great; personally found it very hard to specialize in a specific area right out of law school. And S&C emphasizes mentorship and giving associates substantive experience. Despite not having minimum hours requirements for bonuses, both firms are on the higher end for hours expectations.

3rd year associate at firm, mentorship is incredibly hit or miss but you do get substantive life draining experiences

I’ve had a bad case of work anxiety ever since I started a new job ~7 months ago. The adjustment was ROUGH. I was making mistake after mistake. I powered through and somehow got glowing reviews at year end, with people saying I’ve moved past that point.

I’m convinced I’ve only tricked people and sooner or later they’re gonna catch on. I have extremely bad Sunday scaries, I’m always fighting down my anxiety whenever a new ask comes through. I don’t know what to do.

Does anyone know if this is normal? I joined a vault 100 firm in September last year. The firm put me on tier 7. In January I had the associate review and everything was normal. After a couple of weeks, I got the call from the hiring partner telling my bonus and new salary (because of the firm-wide salary increase). I realized I still get paid as a 7 year associate. The partner said because I joined the firm later in the year, it’s normal not to advance in the next year. Is it? Thanks!
