It can be really hard to make your team feel motivated and boost morale during uncertain times. I try my best to always have a positive attitude and make people feel appreciated and valued. I feel like that is the best anyone can do.
Sorry to hear you're experiencing this. Here are some ideas from a tough situation my team and I were in:
- Focus yourself and the team on the things within your control and outside your control (we even did this as an exercise). It helped junior team members see that giving emotional energy to the things beyond your control isn't worth it and robs energy from the activities you can control
- Celebrate wins and each other. You can't control how the client treats you but you interact with your team constantly, so make those interactions as positive as you can. Celebrate all small steps forward. Recognize people's contributions.
- Set the vision for what you're building towards. It's easier to make it through a rough patch when you can understand it as part of a bigger story. What are you ultimately trying to do as a team? What could this work mean personally for the people serving this client in terms of their careers? Set the vision then keep reinforcing.
