Who has the best M&A Tax Practice ?

PwC based on my experience. They have the largest tax and legal practice.

I say this because there are plenty of EY folks who jumped to PwC and speak very highly of PwC, and same as Deloitte which has always doubled down on advisory more than anything else so the expertise, tax backing, and resources (like a national tax service) aren’t as robust there… should note that advisory/consulting is probably more renowned at Deloitte fyi.

Have seen a lot of other b4 m&a tax folks (JDs and CPAs) make their way to our firm for this role specifically and have never heard of anyone in my network leave for anywhere but an industry role or law firm for $.

That is interesting, yes. Yeah this is a tough subjective question. You’ll be fine whenever you land, but the next firm is always going to offer a sweetener to get you to switch over at the end of the day. I’ve had a good experience at PwC, DM me with any specific questions, happy to help!

A&M

If you want to learn and develop PWC. If you want the most money HL/AM. Deals in general.

Let me know if you want a referral to PwC. M&A Tax (at least in NY) pays very well.

PwC M&A Sub K team all day!

60-70/week sustained over multiple weeks is not unheard of in M&A (particularly deals). I’d guess that on average I probably do 50 hours/week (total hours). But in general the hours are extremely unpredictable. I may have a day or two with zero work to do and then the next day could be a 15 chargeable hour day because 3 different clients asked for something on the same day.

My natural instinct is to assume rejection if I have conflict with a partner or don’t think my feelings are reciprocated. I’ll try to bring it up with them, but I’ll say “if you want to end this feel free” so it doesn’t hurt me (and they can say what they really mean instead of sugarcoating). Someone told me today that they just assume I’m not interested because I always seem to “run” but I’m not sure how to bring up problems/feelings otherwise. How do you approach these hard questions?

💲For those who DON'T think a six figure salary is possible:

👉Just ask for it. Really, you would be surprised. Might be easier to switch to a new company and ask. I did that 3 years into my career.

And 🛑 wasting your time at a company that under-values you severely. Sometimes switching companies every 2 years or so will allow you to keep raising the bar for yourself.
