During the interview, my reporting manager told me that I need to relocate to the city where the Job is, now that I've accepted the offer, can I ask to be remote and if it cannot be granted, can I back up from the offer?

You can rescind your acceptance at any time, just like they can rescind the offer at any time. It reflects poorly on you, it’s a dumb thing to do, and this in particular is a spectacularly stupid way to torch your professional reputation as well as wasting everyone’s time, but that’s not illegal.

It’s even more reprehensible when employers yank offers, and reputable companies don’t do it. We didn’t, last year, not even in the depths of the pandemic. But even bad companies don’t extend offers intending to renege on them.

Yes. They are also free to fire you. Why did you accept if you didn’t want to move and they told you that remote wasn’t possible?

You know what the expectations were... you can do this, but if you waated my time like this, I would take back offer

You can back out.

I’m looking at other firms. I’m trying to understand the facets of how to move over from a Consultant level; if even possible. The whole concept is foreign to me, but I’ll admit that I’m financially driven in this choice (amongst other factors). For those of you who’ve done it and are happy about it, how did you go about doing so? Applying online? Network? Direct contact?

Senior consultant with 7 YoE. Have led multiple projects, been on projects as an assistant product manager (Agile environment and all). Skill set has been mostly SQL, python, tableau. And different ecosystems like snowflake, ssis, aws, mssql, data bricks etc. Trying to move out of consulting , unsure of the kind of roles to target at FAANG and honestly it’s been 7 years since I interviewed so kinda feel very under confident. Anyone in a similar boat?

Have any of your law firms published a new or revised “remote work” policy - specifically what it might look like post Covid? Is there a time when people generally “start” work remotely? Back when I was a summer before the pandemic, I commonly saw people go in between 9-10 am but I didn’t know what the norm is now that we are remote. I see emails at 8 am and I’m not sure if I’m expected to respond then or not. Also if you are on a deal where some of the members are in NY and you’re in the Midwest, are you expected to go by their times and be on when they are on?

I’ve had multiple interviews during the pandemic and have been honest about having a kindergartener at home and how we had to manage school at home. It was hard...and still is. And I feel like that has really hurt my chances at employment. Today CPS has announced school will be all remote this year—I feel really discouraged. Would it be wrong to just not mention my kids? I know I have limitations vs someone without kids but I really need a job. By the by, I have an interview today🤞
