Has anyone gotten stuck at Deloitte? Like you always wanted to leave but never did? This is my biggest fear that I won’t find another job that will value the “consulting” skills because they aren’t real skills.

I think a majority of Deloitte's workforce falls into the "stuck" category because they don't do "real consulting" and instead do staff aug or whatever transformation / fake strategy work they want to call it which is just powerpoint.

I left Deloitte for those reasons and now feel like I am gaining real skills that will propel me in my career.

like

Partially true but this is such an analyst comment

like

Why can’t you get another consulting job at another firm? No one is “stuck” at Deloitte.

There are people that are “career consultants”. They become partners.

like

Ha, I am in industry now and I hire consultants all the time to do stuff to do low value stuff that I wouldn't waste FTE time on.

The reality is that in industry, you might have 1 or 2 trusted advisors/consultants. Everyone else is just a vendor that you are hiring to provide surge capacity or for legal cover.

They’re real skills lol. The smartest/best firms leading business/government wouldn’t hire consulting firms for their “fake” skills.

Are we curing cancer? Absolutely not… but I think you just need to not be so worried and start utilizing Deloitte to build the skills necessary to jump into whatever it is you’d like to do next.

There is a reason why a lot of job posts actually state 3-5 YOE in consulting or ibanking vs more for industry.

I felt stuck being GPS at D, so I hoped over to the commercial practice of another firm a few months ago. Going to try to jump to tech after I hit a year at my new gig

I think it’s a mindset problem. I once felt that way but a friend helped me brainstorm ideas and shift my perspective.

like

I think just getting perspectives from people you respect will get the ideas going. 90% will be unhelpful but that one person will be helpful.

Yea They aren’t “real” skills that’s why companies pay hundreds of $ per hour them , and want to hire Consultants.

like

Yes - I came close to it. M&A IT background. Not a lot of jobs value that skillset outside M&A. I was luckily was able to escape but 100% after two years - the skillset value decreases unless you count the leading teams part.

I’m stuck because of immigration and Uncle D takes full advantage of that.

same

I feel the same way. The thing is that I feel that starting a new job adds a lot of pressure, and I have had a lot of personal issues lately (immigration, health, etc.) So I never take the step to leave...

Golden handcuffs fo sho 😭

I had this fear too. And then I left for industry which confirmed it was all in my head 😎

Copywriter with serious imposter syndrome at new job! How do senior writers up their game? Was in-house 1.5 years and underpaid in NYC. With only previous freelance experience (and nonprofit and grant writing before that) figured I had to slog through it for years. Cut to now, 6 months into a new copywriting role at huge tech company. My salary almost quintupled overnight. I think I’m doing great, but that depends on the day and who I work with (no other writers by the way).

Hi everybody! 😊
I've been working as a Junior Analog Design Engineer for a year and half.
I received a proposal for a Senior Analog Designer role from Bosch in the same city where I am currently working.
Should I wait and build up a few more years of experience before accepting a Senior role or should I jump in and work to fill the gap?
Next year, there will be an important deadline for the project I'm working on and my resignation could be critical for the team, how would you deal with it?
