I just experienced this for the first time! Too much shade! I know each state is different, but have you ever looked down at someone who didn’t pass the bar the first time?

Considering that the bar exam is not an actual measure of real legal competence/practice, no.

Honestly, no. I hope in this day in age people don't feel that way. I know of a partner in NY that took the bar about 8 times. I’ll admit it must feel discouraging not passing and one can get that feeling that everyone is going to look/think of them differently, but it’s your life.

like

No, you don’t know what the person was going through when they failed. Could be a lot of factors.

like

No way. That $hit is hard! Many, MANY people fail at least once, sometimes multiple times. The ones who do and keep trying until they pass - I have mad respect for. That shows some serious resilience.

like

Same! I have a friend that didn’t pass 4 times. That’s $4000. And She’s going to keep trying. Money aside, Studying for the bar was one of the traumatic experiences of my life. Every time I think about getting another license, I chicken out.

I failed the bar for MA 3x. I managed to get a UBE score for another jx the second time and the third I was able to get a score for DC. I also ended up working at a top 20 law firm. Jokes on them if they looked down at me because I bet they ain’t making the same money or mad cause I’m still working in the same tier as them 💁🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ Haters gonna hate.

like

I hope not! When were studying for the bar, my bar prep dean put pictures around the law school of famous people that didn’t pass the first time. A few are Michelle Obama, Kamala Harris, and JFK. A judge that I look up to didn’t pass the first time. I hope anyone who judges others for not passing the first try keeps their mouth shut and their comments to themselves. They may end up working for someone that took a few times to pass.

like

No. The bar is hard AF (and don’t let anyone tell you different). I still thank God to this day that I passed the first time, I could have very easily been one of those who didn’t. I would never look down on someone who took it multiple times.

No.

Hi,
My current company is going out of business next week. I am rushing to get my next job lined up (probably won’t happen in time but I’m trying my best). My question is: should I be honest about why I’m looking for a new job? Is it wrong to not share this info during my interviews? Is this situation going to affect my interview process somehow? Please share your thoughts and wisdom! Thanks!

I had an initial interview on Wednesday. About an hour later, I got a call from an internal recruiter from the same company wanting to follow up and see how the interview went. I didn’t see the voicemail until the following morning when I was at work and called her back that afternoon when I was out of work. I still haven’t heard from her. Is this normal? Should I not try calling back again? I’ve been at my job for several years, so I am unfamiliar with how I should handle a situation like this.

I need some guidance on this situation.

I sublease an apartment from a friend who is currently in Jail unfortunately. I wasn’t in the lease and the apartment found out from my personal check which I paid for the rent.

They refused the rent and after the three day notification has passed they refused the cashier’s check here in Orange County.

The apartment has put him up for eviction and I feel bad about this cos it was cost savings. Is there anything I can do to save this?

COMMENTS REQUESTED!

In the past, lawyer wellness and lawyer discipline/character fitness for bar applicants have existed in silos. I’d like to finally form a bridge between lawyer disciple and lawyer wellness and focus on prevention. When we think of lawyer discipline, we automatically think of outrageous behavior like stealing money. Those are extreme. The common cases are too stressed out and forgetting deadlines or death of a loved one and not having time to call clients back. Cont’d

Does anyone have family members who constantly demand money because they feel like you’re rich now because you’re a lawyer? I’ve always wanted to be in a position to help my family but we all live in the high COL city so my salary doesn’t carry me as far as it would elsewhere. I’ve given a detailed summary of all of my expenses yet every month one family member in particular comes to me for rent money (not some, the full amount, and they refuse to get a job). It has become quite the burden.
