15 mins. Easy, low stress commute is the way to go.
I've always lived 5-10 minutes away from wherever I work because where I live there's one main road to get anywhere and weather greatly affects a commute. I hate being stressed out in traffic and so it's better for my mental health to be able to alleviate that as much as possible and bike or walk to work if I had to. However, I do have friends who embrace their hour-long drive to the office as it gives them a chance to enjoy their coffee and mentally prepare for the day ahead. If you live in a big city and take public transportation, then maybe the commute doesn't matter because you can catch up on reading the paper or other work and don't have to worry about parking. Those are just my observations ;)

30 min by car, hour by train. I like living far, cost of living is less and no one expects me to come into the office for crazy things. Cons is that you have a commute that might be a drag.
I've lived 12 minutes from the office and currently live 1 hour away. I'd say depends on your life situation and your office's wfh policy.
Pre baby, living near downtown was great for commute and networking/happy hours, firm events, etc. Now that I have a kid, moving to the suburb cuts costs of owning a home in half, plus a bigger property, and better school district (for my city). I'm also 100% remote and choose which planned events to go in for, so commute is not a concern. Where I live though, we have dedicated park and rides with buses with special lanes that can take you into downtown within 30ish minutes, so I'd have to be more intentional about childcare pickup/drop off times if I wasn't remote. Or if I wanted to bear the distance and traffic driving my own car. Right now, with my setup, living far works better for me.
6 minute drive. No cons, all pros.
I’m a 15 min walk away from my office. I can fit more into my mornings, like going to the gym and making and eating breakfast at home. I’m in a major city. I grew up here and always wanted to live close enough to work so I wouldn’t have to take the metro
My wife and I live about 30 minutes. More bang for our buck and there is a quality of life like no other now that we are trying for children etc.
I guess it all depends where you are in your life lol.
I live DT and work DT. 5 min walk. Nice because it’s close to work and I don’t have to drive.
I live about a 20 minute drive. It is not bad at all. I don't mind it.
I live around15-20 mins of walk away from the office. It's convenient because I also treat my morning walks as exercise. Saves me money from commuting too.
