Ever worked in a place that promised “career growth” and it turned out to just mean covering more shifts for the same pay? I fell for that. Was told I’d be “training for management” but really it's just closing five nights a week, doing inventory for free, and covering call-outs. No raise, no title. How do you tell if an offer is legit??

This type of abuse is really common right now. Employers have all the power these days. They say “if you don’t like it, then leave”. So many of us can’t leave that easily,.. but just end up doing not hours and more work…

Every other restaurant company I have ever worked for. I have interviewed people that I thought had management potential, but after working with them for a couple months I realized it just wasn’t there. I always sit down and let them know what they need to do to step up. If they don’t step up I leave them where they are or let them go, but I let them know their status.

That is my current role. I have been looking for something new because there is no more growth. There is no role I can move up into unless someone retires which won't happen anytime soon.

So, I'm sure this has been discussed. What would be a cut off for when to leave without necessarily burning bridges? End of October? End of November?

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?

I work as an AGM in a busy restaurant. Been working there for just over a year, and haven't had a single raise. Should I try to negotiate a raise or look for other opportunities?
