So, the thing about sending out a resume is, it's nothing. It is swiping right on a dating site. The interview is the first date. None of these are a committment to switch careers or anything.
My rule is, ALWAYS go to the interview. If it seems interesting, send a resume. If they want an interview, go. Even if you are perfectly happy with your job, and have no intention of leaving, go to the interview.
First of all, things can change in an instant. I have been through company bankruptcies, store closings, management changes, and buyouts. A perfectly fine and reasonable situation can change almost overnight.
Second, ESPECIALLY if you do the hiring at your job (or want to be involved), interviewing improves your interviewing skills (from both sides of the table), gets you out of your comfort zone, and you might learn something useful that you can do at your current job.
There are so many upsides to interviewing, and the only downside is a lunch break or an afternoon off that you waste. Well worth it.

Totally agree! I’ve started thinking of interviews more as learning experiences than commitments, good way to stay sharp and see what’s out there.

Probably dealing with a bit of separation anxiety but YOU GOT THIS!
Chief
Thank you! Definitely scary, but I’m ready to take the leap!
Honestly, sometimes you have to just do it. Don't even think about it just update your resume and start applying. Change is scary sure, but so is mediocrity.
Chief
Totally! Sometimes the scariest step is also the most worth it.
You just start doing it. Try to shut up that little voice in your head and click apply. I get in these moods myself and have found that recapturing that courage and motivation is a lot like riding a bike. Once you get started, it's easy to maintain the momentum. You just have to get that first one submitted. Make that your goal for this week: one application submitted. I promise the next ones will feel so much easier by comparison.

So true! Just getting that first one out there is always the hardest part. Thanks for the push!
I do this all the time... good luck!!
Chief
Haha, sounds like you’re a pro at it! Thanks! 😄
I think I'm going to update my resume today, I have a rare Saturday off so I think I should apply to some jobs!
Chief
Nice! Perfect chance to get ahead, good luck with the applications!

When you’re actually ready to leave retail sending out your resume will come easy
Chief
Exactly! Once you’re done with the chaos, updating that resume feels like a breeze.
