🐟 family, need some suggestions. Wife got offer from PWC (new team; technology focus; 0%-20% travel role) to join San Jose or Chicago office. We are currently in Seattle. What say you??

Chicago - cost of living is so much more affordable. And if you travel you'll be in the middle of the country.

like

Chicago for all reasons above. And because it's an office with lots of integrity

like

R u asking for city or if she should take it?

like

Def Chicago. Unless she's being offered Partner, steer clear of SF. CoL is disgusting and I live in NYC

like

Chicago. More to do in the city for better COL. As long as you can handle the weather. Also please make sure she does due diligence on pwc and he position.

like

Chicago all day. We're the 2nd tenant of the UBS tower, within sight of the train station in the loop and all that entails. Recently remodeled, company sponsored happy hours with craft beer and hot food every Friday, cafeteria on the 30th floor is excellent and reasonably priced...if I had to live in the bay it would be SF or north not SJ.

like

Chicago is a giant ghetto. Stay away.

like

Chicago is definitely more diverse than Seattle, so that will be a culture shock.

like

I don't know tons about the NV team yet but I'd be inclined to say San Jose given the space they're in and the exit opps may be better at least to tech companies. But NV, from what I know of it, could be quite exciting as it's intended to drive a bunch of firm growth in the future.

like

I think the lack of exit opps in Chicago is overstated. Fairly vibrant startup scene in Chicago (obviously not SV) and lots of traditional companies making plays in those areas. Additionally, you can always move again if she wants to go to SV. I've lived in CA and Chicago. Chicago is a great place to live as a consultant.

like

Sorry A1. which city?

What area of techarge? Have to disagree with the others on first reactiin and say San Jose if it's a technology focus. You'll build a stronger tech network and likely deeper skills if you can live in SV and commute to SJ. Your cost of living will adjust. Chicago's location is better for the travel but you already said it's 20% at most.

🙄

20% travel is going to be total fiction, esp in Chi.

Chicago. San Jose sucks. I fly to both.

Also, if you move to Chicago live north of the loop. There are better neighborhoods there.

If cyber, Chicago. If Oracle, definitely San Jose. Otherwise practice is same.

Do you believe 20% travel? If so that's +1 for San Jose. If you think it'll really be more, Chicago.

Both great cities, agree above, make sure she does due diligence on the practice

Thanks for the input folks. The team is 'New Ventures' (I am not sure which practice that comes under).

P3 - The technologies are RPA, Blockchain, Machine Learning, VR. The role/team is product dev/manager for these technologies. Thus I had the same thought of network support.

P8 - that's what we head. Wife got a good gig since she did her tech Masters with focus on machine learning. I am worried Chicago's lack of networking/exit opportunities in this space.

hi all, currently have two offers:

1: EY - FDD, home city, very good $$ for FDD

2: PwC - post-merger integration, DDV team (essentially M&A Consulting) - bigger city, always been keen to move

Coming as a Senior in Audit, with recent FDD exposure (2 deals, obviously not much). I was looking for something more than just number crunching, wanting a mix of quant / quali / strategic work. M&A Advisory or a Corp Strategy role is where I'm looking to end up long term.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Fishes,

I currently hold offers from below:
IBM - 15.5 LPA
CTS - 18.5 LPA
PWC India - 16 LPA
Oracle Financial Services Software(OFSS) - 21 LPA

Planning to join OFSS as I will work in product development team and can work in any shift timings with WFH.

Today I had my 2nd round interview with EY GDS and got rejected.
Do I need to worry about this and feel low?
Could EY GDS would have been better instead of OFSS?

Please provide your valuable inputs.

Hi Fishes/Seniors,
This will be the first time I will be in tax slab.
I have few queries can anyone please help me regarding this.
In ELSS mutual the total we can save save tax is 1.5lakh. Do we need to invest yearly 1.5 lakh yearly to save tax? I am planning to have a Sip of 5000 monthly for 3 years. So total money invested in 3 years will be around 60000 * 3 = 180000.
Will that be sufficient to save tax or Do I need to have a sip of 12000 per month to save tax.
