Monkey Shoulder?
Or grab him a bottle of lagavulin and watch him squirm lol

Hated Lagavulin, but understand it’s a blue chip scotch
Glenfiddich 14, bourbon barrel aged and is a great entry into scotch.
I wish my Costco still had that. So worth it, would have bought a couple.
Not a blend but I always keep a Glenmorangie 10 on hand. It’s less than $40 here and consistent. A great bottle for converting non-scotch drinkers is this when they drink it along side another whisky and see the contrast.
Prob wouldn’t jump into JW Black. Little too smoky for entry level: I’ll second the glenfiddich,

Dewars White is a good choice for a softer blend. People look down on it because of the price point, but it’s a great product at a phenomenal value.
The scotch world is more about the single malts, that’s the beauty. Blends are usually boring precisely because they’re meant to be balanced. So sticking with blends is really limiting. IMHO it’s better to figure out if taste preferences gravitate towards the sweet or the savory, and then start digging into specific single malts based on that.
Talisker Storm Single Malt Scotch is a great one.

Can you get it that cheap though?
Balvenie hands down.
I will also say that I absolutely love Johnnie Walker’s rye scotch. I use it for both cocktails and drink it on the rocks. Getting harder to find though
Glendronach 12 or Highland Park 12
Best entry into scotch is Tomintoul 16 YR , speyside, light and fruity, no peat. It’s the flagship of the brand and a great bridge from bourbon to scotch.
