Private barrel picks would be my first priority, if possible, but then Old Forester 1920 or Elijah Craig Barrel Proof
Came here to say ecbp
Nikka From the Barrel
Too many less than $100 to list. Paying over $100 with a few exceptions isn't worth it given the amazing whiskeys available in the $50-$70 range
My go to has become impossible to find... Old Elk Straight Bourbon Whiskey is great.
Greenbrier Distillery's stuff is good.
Angel's Envy is typically under 100.
I try a lot of stuff and almost never pay over 100. I've had good and bad. A lot depends on personal preference. I'll never recommend anything single barrel because it all tastes a bit different. One of the bests whiskeys I've ever had (better than some $200 bottles I've tasted) was actually a Jack Daniels single barrel selection.
I saw the Bardstown recommendation. I really like their stuff, but similarly, having tried it, I wouldn't pay the over $100 on some of their stuff... really good, but not worth the premium.
Boring, but Oban 14 is such an easy to find go to
Just got Bardstown fusion series. Blue label
The discovery series is so much better. If you like the fusion, you should try it. If you don’t like the fusion, you should still try it because it’s a big step up in flavor
If I could only pick one, it would either be Chattanooga Whiskey Cask Strength, EHT Small Batch, or Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Belle Meade Cask Strength Reserve
Oban and Basil Hayden are my favs
Four Roses Single barrel is delish
Pro
To name a few - Elijah Craig barrel proof batches, EH Taylor Small batch if you can find it (if not, John J Bowman single barrel), Sagamore Spirits double oak, Stellum Black Rye. There are a lot of decent MGP ryes that are 6ish year, cask strength for about 60-70 which are solid. Sleeper pick is Knob Creek Cask Strength rye. It was a limited release in 2018/2019 but it has mostly sat on shelves and I’ve found a few this year.
Edit: Redbreast Cask Strength can be found for about $90 and it’s one of my favorite Irish whiskeys.
Fair point. But eliminates the fun of single barrel for me 🙃

Most old forester store pick barrel proofs I’ve had have been wonderful and $70-80, also Eagle rare if it’s not an exorbitantly inflated price
Woodford reserve is a good go-to
