Fellow M&A folks, how often do you work over the weekend? 50% of the time or less?

Certainly less than this bowl and reddit had me believing I’d be working - that being said, when it does happen I feel an unbelievable amount of angst.

>90%. Have not had a weekend fully off in 5 months.

Idk, just a 4th year at a PE sweatshop.

Less

I’d say 30% of the time I reply to a few emails or send a doc that I was waiting on sign off for etc., but it’s almost always “when I have a moment on the weekend” and nothing I interrupt plans for.

Another 25% of the time I work 1-4 hours one day, and again usually nothing crazy urgent but often catching up from the week because I just needed a quiet few hours or am catching up on deal 2 after deal 1 closed.

10% of the time I do serious work (more than 5 hours).

Remaining 35% of the time I do literally nothing

like

Like 90% of weekends I bill something but maybe 25% of the time is it more than 2 hours a day

IMO it doesn’t really matter how many hours you work on a weekend if you’re not in the post-deal honeymoon phase. Whether it’s 1 or 10 hours on a Saturday, if you know you have to be responsive and “ready” it still psychologically interferes with you and your ability to unwind and enjoy yourself if you’re refreshing your work email knowing any minute now you might have to whip out a laptop.

smart

And if it’s completely unforeseen IMO it’s not that urgent. Especially if it’s internal deadlines. Sorry partner. If you needed a Saturday night turn for some random reason I need some notice of that. Tough luck for you.

If a deal is on and moving, there is sadly little distinction between weekdays and weekends.

Normally just an hour or two. Senior at v5

Like 75%. This past year was particularly bad with a stretch of 4 months with no weekends off. More or less clenched it for me to get serious about looking for an in-house role later this year.

I think it would be clinched here, but can imagine you were fully clenched

Over 80%

Less. I’m a SA at Latham.

By working I mean more than a couple of hours over the weekend, not just the odd email here or there.

Have not had a weekend that wasn’t a full working weekend for 3 months now

You gotta make up some family commitment or something to take time off or you’re gonna burn out

Hi y’all,
I am resigning from my position. I don’t have a job secured yet, but I have a couple interviews lined up. I’m wondering if I should tell my admin tomorrow (before going on break) or wait until I have a job secured.
FYI: I found one document saying I need to give a 30 day notice and the employee handbook says 2 weeks to be in “good standing”.
Any advice would be helpful.

Is it normal to not get a perfect review? Just curious . Does everyone pretty much get some sort of constructive feedback?

How do you assess your client time as billable or non-billable? We are currently reviewing our time card process and want to better establish groundwork for differentiating between the two. Further to that, do you have your time members log their time and categorize it as Billable/Non-Billable upon submission? or does the Account Manager review submitted time cards and assign each based on the work being logged?

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart
