For those of you who build websites, how do you display your built sites on your portfolio site? Do you have a page where you mock up the site or do you do a direct link? I currently have both. The underlying blame is simply the economic conditions over the past year. Companies can't get a handle on the economy and where it's headed, so they're hesitant to do any hiring. You're right, however, that recruiters are a bottleneck. There are just too many people applying to too few jobs, and someone has to winnow down the applications.
I have been looking for 8 months and I am right there with you. I have only had two interviews in that time span because of how bad the job market is. I have been thinking about hiring a career coach to see if that helps me at all.

It’s the market. Recruiters reach out to people in top companies, faang etc and everyone’s wanting to leave their current roles so you’re pretty much competing with them.
