I’m from a low-income family, the only one who went to college) and already make more @25 (140k) than my blue-collar parents ever did in their life. There is clear resentment, judgment, jealousy from family regards to my life/ income to where I stopped sharing vacation plans/ posting about my adventures. Has anyone else been in this position? How do you manage it?
Managing 2 analysts - noticed their teams status is routinely away for 2-3 hours at a time. Responsive within 5-10 mins of ping and always get their work done albeit sometimes late at night. Is this a problem?
As I prepared to file my notice, the partner of the firm called me and asked me to stay. They’re willing to promote me mid year in December and increase salary next year in August. The current offer I have gives 60% pay increase and Partner still can’t match that offer after promotion. Firm leadership says here I have potential to be a partner in 8 years and talk about all the leadership support I have rn which is fair. Is this one of their tactics to make me stay or should I just leave…
I consider myself a gen xer. I feel that in the past, longevity and loyalty to a company was the trend. Now, i see ppl with resumes and they stay for less than a year in a job and change jobs constantly. The younger generation and are so eager to move up the ladder. I wonder if the move up is too fast and is really justified. Or perhaps the younger generation feels a lot more entitled and are more aggressive. Thoughts?
Caught a candidate and offerree lying about his GPA. Resume had a 3.9 and background check returned a transcript with 3.7 (doesn’t look like he was ever close to 3.9). Seems like a bright kid though, mostly just unsettled by the need to lie. What would you do?
26, no kids or debt, making 175k/Yr - miserably bored at work and want to work for a startup. In the size startups I want for the role I want I’d have to take 50% pay cut Thoughts?
If you were allowed to remote work from anywhere right now where would you move in the US?

Perks of WFH I guess
Why don't more (white collar) Americans take breaks in-between jobs? Like a month or two summer break. Is this mindset that you need to work all the time a vestige from back when people would work at the same company for 40 years until they die?
Most embarrassing WFH moment?
Bravo Deloitte 🙌 Laid off a Senior and a year later, offer staff/intern position. Consulting or insulting🥴
My friends little sister is graduating undergrad and has an offer from Strategy& for $100k and McKinsey for $90k (pretty sure McK is going to bump soon). Im obviously biased to McK but want to show her other perspectives. Which one should she choose and why?? And and all feedback is welcomed!
Just a Wednesday rant: I turned 40 yesterday and realized I've wasted the prime of my life in consulting. I neglected fam, friends and my own emotional & spiritual needs owing to the adrenaline and stress of this space, and corporate tech in North America in general. The realization hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm going to exit to something super low-key so I can finally start making some memories. Rant over. Thank you for reading.
It’s a remote week and I couldn’t sleep so I got up at 5 and worked on my deliverables. It’s now 10AM and I have finished all my work I had slated for today. What should I do?
Just interviewed a potential resource (level 9 consultant) for a role on my project. Client was present and noticed the person was very likely being coached during the interview. My Sr Mgr and I...

Managers, analyst asks to take 11am flight to avoid the 6am (only two options - Mondays). Yay/nay?
What is the most cutthroat consulting firm out of the Big Four? I'm sure MBB are the most cutthroat but just Big Four
What would you do if you had a senior manager do the following: - tells a senior they aren't allowed to be on internal calls alone - tells a senior they aren't allowed to raise issues higher up the chain and all issues have to go through him first - tells a senior a director is complaining about him to a MP and the director might be complaining about the senior as well - tells the senior they will have to evaluate how much time they can take off for their wedding.... Said it before and I’ll say it again: Hyatt’s are woefully underrated. Walked in the front of my hotel wearing the “shit today was rough” look and a lobby clerk just hands me this on my way to my room
Received offer for $120k at Deloitte for consultant level, currently a big jump from my staff 2 salary of 85k but I know I am being early promoted and will likely make around $105-$110k by August, is the short term salary bump worth starting over at a new firm?
Soooooo excited to go back to Ohio tomorrow 😕
How do you deal with people who assume you went into consulting because you don't have a "passion" in life? I hear this all the time as a recent grad and it's makes me doubt myself. 🙇♀️
Do you think it’s a fireable offense to interview with another team internally at your company without telling your current manager/team? If not fireable, how bad does it look if your team finds out you’ve interviewed with a couple other teams in the last 6 months?
How best to inform my new manager that I have pre-planned time OOO for two days on the requested start date of the project?
Just discovered House of Lies on Showtime...it's about Management Consultants oh shitttt lol
