Managing up (politics, proactivity, proving you’re adding value for both clients and agency) is just as important as managing down (leading without micromanaging, inspiring while dealing with human flaws, giving rope without letting slop get through, etc).
I’m in account, so your mileage in Strat may vary, but the biggest difference at the director level for me was the extent you need to delegate to the team, and knowing how much they can handle versus where you need to spend your valuable time. Knowing your team, their limits, and their strengths + weaknesses is critical.

Figure out how you’re going to integrate AI into your and your team’s workflows. Make a consistent have a plan period of review and upgrade to that implementation to ensure your regularly assessing the latest tools. It’s gonna continue to slash jobs and those who remain will be asked to do more than ever.
