Hi all, I just got a job offer at PwC for a senior consultant position. The salary is 30% above my total comp right now, but I’m just worried about the amount of work I will have to put in compared to my amazing work life balance now. Does anyone have any experience moving from industry to consulting? I need some advice on what to do. I’m still early in my career (1.4yoe) so I feel like I shouldn’t care too much about wlb, but at the same time, I don’t want my mental health to suffer either.

Couple ideas (these are all things I do): drink lots of fluid - you have to go to the bathroom, find random spots you can stand and work, grab a coffee or drink every 3 hours, call SO around 6 and talk / walk for 10 minutes, work out in the morning, and last, and most sadly, this is normal-get used to it.
I average probably 12 hours at a desk a day and I make it work pretty well.
Being a good consultant doesn't mean no lunch breaks.... But no lunch breaks does mean bad management. Def escalate to counselor. Lack of analysts/consultants escalating on shitty managers over the years is why the culture is so bad right now!
Yeah. Manage your own time. I understand as a first year you may be still figuring out how to be professional about it..
Do what I do, work in bursts of 30 min. Get up at the end of it, do few expenses and email clean up. Repeat.
Working lunch is normal, that doesn't mean you can't take short breaks on your own. E.g. Step out and get a coffee, go chill in men's room 😎. When he means working lunch, he is trying to say that the team can't go away for 45 mins claiming lunch break

@D15 it was hilarious to go through. I felt like I was pledging again
Offer to pick up lunch for the team. Everyone will love you and you get time by yourself and some fresh air.
Get the work done. Do your own thing for meals and evenings if that is important to you.
Take bathroom breaks, or tell her that you need to clear your head? The others on the team don't say anything?
You might want to take up meditation and then when you go into a bathroom stall, you could more easily summon that calmness. That's another trick that I've used for this. Sorry, I'm in a similar situation

Eat your lunch at your desk, but catch up on your Hulu and Netflix shows on your phone while you eat. It keeps me sane. (For unlimited data users only)
Play him the scene of Shawshank Redemption where Freeman asks if he can take a brake. What a douche.
*break
Just take it. Time doesn't equal output. If you work better with a break take it and bill what you work honestly

By some state laws you should have a lunch break, toilet break and even cigarette breaks. But it's deloitte suck it up and keep working or quit and find another job.
@D16 I feel bad for you. D must really suck.
If only I could say this sounded strange to me ...
You are allowed by law to take a break. I think it's at least 20 minutes.
