Do I go for a promotion even though I’m being told it isn’t a home run? Is there a backlash/ detriment to declaring for one and not receiving? Would I be wasting folk’s time? This is my first run at a promotion outside the Army.

How do you split income/expenses with your spouse? Wife earns about 75% as much as me. Don’t have kids yet. Do you have a joint account for everything or do you split common expenses 50-50 or in proportion to income? Something else? This has caused some contention so want to benchmark. Thanks!

Does anyone else just not even want to be a people manager anymore?! The amount of work this is taking, I’m just so over it. In addition to them piling on my work (which is a full time job) the people management stuff is just as much a full time job that no one in management seems to take into account. Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.
