A lot of injured people like meeting in-person. It builds the connection for some people. Others are fine doing Zoom initial meeting/consultations (our firm moved remote during pandemic, but we’re back in-office with the ability to work remote if need be). But most clients like the face-to-face interaction, especially for the initial intake meeting.
Presumably. Billable hours by their nature lend themselves to remote work because an attorney has to account for all of their working time anyway. Built-in accountability.
One other possible factor: Plaintiff firms are run by more business oriented attorneys. Those people understand that most employees are more productive in the office.
I do think plaintiff’s firms meet with their clients more frequently than defense, so being in office is nice for that — especially if you’re doing intake with a new client, zoom doesn’t always cut it. But I def found my firm was really weird about WFH for a lot of the pandemic, and we had to RTO way earlier than defense firms. So yeah I think it was def suspicion people wouldn’t be working. But they eventually got used to it and now are fully hybrid.
