My wife is self-employed, and thus we need to think about income tax and self-employment tax. I’m a normal employee.

I’m trying to avoid the hassle of quarterly tax payments. Since we file jointly, can I just increase my W-4 withholdings to cover the tax bill for her income tax and self-employment tax?

Just realized I can’t contribute to a Roth since my income is too high (I think). TC ~190k and wife makes around 90k. I’ve only been contributing for a few months now at the advice from a CFP friend (he never asked me what I made). Should I go back to 401k contributions or is there a better option here? I expect my retirement income (via pension) to be higher than my HHI now.

First gen grad working in Corp America so had to learn stuff like investing from scratch. I deposited funds in my IRA and invested those in some stocks. This was early in my learning journey. I've since learned about Roth IRAs and their tax benefits and would love to convert but I own some stocks that I bought relatively cheap and would hate to sell. Any way for me to convert to Roth while holding my stocks?

The only positive thing I’m getting from this hell market is a lot of lessons learned (very very painful lessons, entered the market for the first time around late dec/early jan in segments).

Any lawyers here who might be able to confirm? - I work at a public company and my sibling is a professional day trader at a trading firm. I never, ever discuss my employer with him for hyper-avoidance of illegal insider trading (I’m not even sure if he trades our stock). Is there anything either of us should be doing to be extra safe? How should I structure this? $210k in my checking account; of that, $150k is for a down payment in 7-19 months. The other $60k is my general spending / emergency fund. I would like to increase the interest I earn on the above in a risk averse manner. I’m thinking of moving all but $10k into a HYSA. Does that make sense?
