Wow, must be a pretty expensive umbrella if you’re wanting to get it insured
Just imagine the money I could have if I stopped buying such expensive umbrellas
Depends on what assets you have. I have a $3M umbrella because I have multiple rental properties. For a standard portfolio (couple kids, vehicles, house) I don’t think you need more than $1M. Umbrella insurance is really cheap so no reason not to, but most require your primary policies to be with the same carrier
I have $900K in assets with $650K NW. So I got a $1M umbrella policy. Costs me $256.31 a year and it's bundled with my home/auto. I learned that it's difficult to get an umbrella from another company that does not have your home and/or auto. They like to bundle them.
Geico or whoever's is doing your auto currently.
I'm surprised you waited this long. I'm looking into it next year, and I'm only like 250k nw.
Thanks M1!
If you don’t own a car or home, do you need umbrella insurance? Can you even get umbrella insurance?
do you carry renters insurance? you could put an umbrella on top of that, but it becomes up to if you think you need it or not.

Travelers, as far as carriers
Check with your employer, you might be able to get it through them. I know at Deloitte employees can buy 1M or 2M policies but you need minimum underlying coverage. Partners are given a nice amount of coverage for free and can buy additional as well.
Have a $1m policy through geico (where we have our other insurance). Costs ~150 a year. Requires 300k liability on all our other policies, just FYI.
Would certainly recommend a policy - might be worth more than $1m if your assets are already over that
Can a person go after your retirement accounts in a lawsuit, or are they protected?
I've read that 401k's are safer than IRA's
