That's a great one! I've also had good success with The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing
I love using Percy Jackson ones for ancient Greece and Rome!
I teach 7th graders and during our Growth and Expansion unit, I read the book Weasel by Cynthia DeFelice our loud to my kids. The chapters are the perfect length and there’s just the perfect amount of heart racing adventure. It has a coming of age element and has a storyline set on the Ohio frontier that hits our Indian Removal Act learning targets as students quickly understand various perspectives- settlers, government, and American Indians. They LOVE the book and beg me to keep reading.
