Let me give you a tip for making your life a happier one... stay away from CNN and MSNBC.
Ignorance is what these stations preach.
USPS is a service. It costs money, it’s not designed for profit. Americans can’t fathom the idea of something existing without the sole purpose of generating profit.
Pro
Only when it’s convenient*
Losing*
Yes as MS1 says, it’s a government service not a business. It won’t be a profit center as long as it serves every locale.
Chief
Except the loss isn't due solely to the prefunding mandate.
Take a look at USPS' FY19 results, for example, there's a significant chunk of red there that isn't prefunding related: https://about.usps.com/newsroom/national-releases/2019/1114-usps-reports-fiscal-year-2019-results.htm
Rising Star
Just so people don’t jump on the weak spots in your argument- USPS would still have issues even without the extra issues.
Mail sending has gone WAY down, and while packages have gone way up, it’s not enough to make up for it.
That said, USPS is a massive infrastructure, with capabilities that dwarf private options like FedEx. They also charge less!
