Clawback clause in current contract: been in role for over 2 yrs, it was an internal move that required relocation. Relocation was approved shortly after (over 2 yrs ago) but covid meant the actual move and start of my contract with new subsidiary was delayed, I was paid by the previous subsidiary meanwhile. In the interview process for a City Attorney office position. Is it ok to reach out to a current attorney in the office to get intel? For context, I don’t actually have a connection to this person other than I learned through the interview process that they too are from my law school. High likelihood that that person tells the interviewers I’ve reached to get intel. Is it OK/fair game for me to contact this person or not?

There’s a strong demand for laterals now; and I am thinking about going back to private practice because current salary is substantially lower (about 40% lower) than what I can get in private practice. Has anyone here thought about going back to private practice for the salary boost?
