For those of you that don’t job hop, what are some of your main reasons for staying? I love the people I work with and my manager, which makes it hard for me to want to leave; however, the merit increase structure is horrible and I’m finding myself slowly starting to weigh that more important and look elsewhere

I’ve never considered myself a job hopper… I stayed with my first company for 4 years… my second company for 6… did a 1 year advisor development program… then 5 years at my current firm…

For me, it came down to growth… either personally or professionally… if I was growing then that’s a reason for me to stay… for me it was never about the money… money is great, don’t get me wrong… but finding a good fit at a firm is hard, and when you do find it, your more likely to stay happy, work hard (because you want to), and receive promotions…

If you hop around, it always becomes about a promotion or the money… if you don’t give it time, you’ll just always be frustrated… promotions happen in time, and with that more money… that’s just how it works…

I won’t hire anyone who’s had more than 3 different jobs in 5 years or 4 different jobs in 10 years… it’s not worth my time investment and the capital investment…

Great info, thanks for sharing

I think for us oldies, we were taught early in life that loyalty to your company was something to be admired and respected. I don’t know if I can speak for everyone, but I think that was terrible life lesson. Somebody should have taught companies to be more loyal and appreciative to their employees.

For your predicament, you just have to the weigh out the various factors that mean more to you and do what’s best for you. What’s more important…a great team and working environment with little to no pay raise or potentially more money and advancement? You can certainly have both, but even thats a crapshoot. Lol

Haha very true! And agree with your points about companies being loyal to employees. It’s rare to feel like your valued at a company these days

Make a list of your priorities in a job. Rank or give them values, and see how your current job delivers. You can use that when figuring out whether it makes more sense to stay or go.

I've been very frustrated with office politics at times, but my lowest pay increase over the past 6 years has been 9%. As long as that continues, I'm not going anywhere.

7% 401k match and 10% profit sharing. I’ll stay until I retire for that.

The benefits at my company are amazing. Point blank period.

I’m giving them until my vesting period is met (2028) if I’m not in a new role by then I will be leaving.

I don’t job hop right now since the 401k and benefits are good. I love my team as well.

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

Does anybody know what the typical salary range is and total comp for someone starting out as an internal or external wholesaler? If you are one of these, can you share about your experience in terms of whether you liked it or not, work life balance, travel, etc?

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.
