For those who’ve gone from a W-2 to a 1099, was it worth it? I got an offer to work as an independent contractor instead of an employee, and the pay is much higher, but no benefits. I’m trying to figure out if the trade-off is worth it. If you’ve made the switch, was it a financial win in the long run, or did the lack of benefits eat too much into your income?

I asked for a raise in April 2022 after three years with my company. Positive feedback since day one. Learned I was making less than peers at other asset managers in NYC with less experience (14 years). Latest conversation was with HR about how they calculate salaries. I’ve been in my position with the Federal Government for over six years. I have never received a grade increase for the time that I was there, yet all of my reviews have been favorable down to me being able to receive monetary bonuses.
