Founder of consulting firm. 100% equity, less than $1,000 a year in costs, all employees are contractors, so basically everything goes directly to me at the end of the day.

I technically get a "salary" of $180,000 a year. Everything else is a "bonus", technically. My comp last year was a little over $450,000. This year started slower but has picked up significant momentum recently, so I expect to be around the same this year and slightly higher next year.

You had better look at the law on classification of employee vs. independent contractor.
Nice comp... I wanted to leave you with a tip since you are the owner and probably want to do things correctly...

The IRS, DOL, unemployment, etc. all have their own rules on what constitutes an independent contractor.

If you get audited and misclassifications were found, you could have substantial liability sitting at your front door. Dol link below. DOL is really pushing compliance with this recently in my experience.

https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/flsa/misclassification/myths/detail

The state I live in uses the ABC test (most other states do too). High chances your workers fail the ABC test

A... Direction & control
B... place or course of business
C... independently established.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/abc_test

Thanks for the tip! I actually feel confident my employees pass the ABC test though, and I do have CPAs and lawyers that have confirmed I'm doing everything by the book.

Fishes need suggestions. I have been put on PIP for bad performance. I am being a part of 6 months project and project is about to complete with backend work done. I took more time for some tasks because of not knowing the technology so they highlighted that and my senior send emails to HR to put me on PIP. What should I do ? Acknowledge PIP ? Or resign? Or let them terminate me so I can claim salary of three months as fnf settlement? Getting confused, please suggest.

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be?
