Surely the fact that a gay man can move to Harlem and feel at home should be welcomed, not called a "sad" byproduct of gentrification.
Sadly, Harlem is gentrified now so you're fine.
I would say, you should NOT move in with a boyfriend + girlfriend couple unless they're on track to getting married. Like if they've been together for 4+ years, sure move in.
Less than that, you'll probably see a lot of yelling.
Either way, this is a short term solution sadly.
And so the gentrification continues
GENTRIFIERS!! The worst
Totally ashamed that when I read "gay fun" my mind instantly went to coke filled orgies...still need to work on filtering my internal thoughts I guess
And people who hate on gentrifiers are the worst
Have you thought about moving to Queens? Laughable to some to leave the island, I know, but it's a lot cheaper and there's gay bars in (I think it's) Jackson heights
You can take a lot of ubers to/from gay fun things for $1,200 per month. Go for it!
I love me some gentrifiers- making the value of my place on Crown Heights grow like cray!
Go to Harlem and experience it yourself; life is too short man, do whatever makes you happy
Also, it's my best friend and her boyfriend's place.
/\ Long Island City
It's pretty dead in terms of specifically gay fun honestly... but like I'd never be scared walking around Harlem holding hands with my boyfriend if that's what you're worried about.
Restroom? Are you moving into a restaurant?
Honestly I think it's pretty dumb move to move to anywhere over 100th... at that point move to Bk/QN/NJC
The hell does sexual orientation have to do with gentrification?
