Case studies are intended as a test of general business acumen and ability to apply general world knowledge to a new situation logically. There’s no way to memorize every potential scenario and associated “perfect framework.” Also, what happens when you get a “weird” case that combines case types into a hybrid? Unless you can solve logically your framework is going to look super weird and obviously a patchwork attempt at combining memorized answers.
Spending hours every day over months studying case frameworks and approaches does not make sense imo. I’d suggest that you can learn all the basic case types in a day. Then you should watch MBB consultants on YouTube go through a few mock interviews. You will notice they all use a fairly simple approach, but then are able to pull in secondary insights from their life experience to flesh out the framework logically.
I was able to go from not knowing what a case study was to landing McKinsey and BCG offers within 4 weeks. My McKinsey application was less than a full week from first contact with HR to final interview. I probably studied a grand total of ~15 hours maybe with most of that just listening to MBB consultants example case studies and noting down what they did.
In short, there’s no need to spend many hours on this.
Right now prepping for Mckinsey. Going through the Crafting Cases free course and the structuring course. So going through the material 2 hours in the mornings. And then after work trying to do live cases. So far 2 per week but intend to increase cadence to 3 or 4 per week
Umm. I think its going to be 6 weeks just focused on Mckinsey. But I was interviewing elsewhere too so if I count that then it would like 10 weeks? I don’t think it counts though cause Mckinsey is tough!
I'd say about 10hours per week? 2h/day x 5days/week
Definitely time consuming with work
I would def say ten hours a week.
