Pierre was a world-class, career consultant who inspired and led with conviction, but he also represented the last era when trust, relationships, and judgment mattered more than scale and industrialization.
Accenture didn’t become dominant by being the smartest firm. It became dominant by being the most efficient at packaging and scaling expertise. That model worked brilliantly in a world where clients needed armies of consultants to translate strategy into execution.
But AI doesn’t need armies.
Pierre Nanterme led at a time when the firm’s greatest risk was competition from other firms. Today, the real threat isn’t another consultancy—it’s the slow evaporation of the very economic model that made firms like Accenture indispensable.
Accenture isn’t “done for.”
But for the first time in its history, its greatest strength, scale, may also be its greatest vulnerability.
🤮ai slop
I think it’s impossible. I am leaving in a few weeks. Bittersweet — if we had the Accenture of days past I think I’d be here much longer.
They all gone
I was here for that entire decade and agree in many ways, but we often forget that when Pierre came in there was also a sense of doom and dread that the firm had lost its edge. We had a very difficult several years during the Great Recession, Saas and Cloud were going to make consulting irrelevant, etc. Morale was low. Then we started the rotation to the new, made innovation important, started building what today is Song, said every business was a digital business and changed our marketing entirely. What is hurting us today is an attack not on our services like 2012, but our very business model coupled with coming thru a difficult time after the easy money expansion during Covid.
I promise you in 2016 people were talking about how much they missed 2006. It’s just the nature of this business in many ways.
Yes but every change was giving Acn a strategic boost, every time there was a change we were growing crazy this time ….
We need to bring back the AMC way!
What is the “AMC way”?
