I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around. And I have seen my colleagues getting annoyed by that. It's like I've become dumb. In my defence, I could say they're giving half assed instructions.

What does it mean when a partner gives associates, especially junior associates, origination credit? Practically, I don't think it makes a difference except maybe for bonuses, but I'm wondering if there's any deeper meaning than extending gratitude?

After you are stealth laid off, other than job search, what do you do? I assume they won’t give you work and even if they do, you can politely decline? I have a clerkship with a bankruptcy judge in a major jurisdiction beginning in September. If I stopped working in April, is that too early or can I stop whenever? I’m not in RX now, but I want to join a major RX group after my clerkship. I’ve been working at the same firm out of law school, so almost 2 years.

What does it mean if there’s a NEP at the firm who’s been there for a long time (20+ years), but never got promoted to EP? Never held leadership roles too. Does it usually mean EPs does not like the NEP enough to get promoted?

The NEP has a book of business, though no idea how much it brings in.
