Agree, and if wildly off can negotiate. But as others said, I really wouldn’t push too hard.. it can bias perception negatively before you even join. It’s not like a regular corporate job negotiation dynamic
Depends on how much leverage you have over the PE fund. Heard from a friend his fund got rinsed because the business of the portco was so niche they couldn’t find a comparable C suite exec when the C suite exec threatened to quit, else they risked having to take a chance on untested people and possibly throw their investment case off track.
This portco had almost 1B in annual revenue, and ended up paying this exec mid 7 figures as a retention bonus and also raised his base comp by 100% to low 7 figs. This excluded any equity vesting which added up to low 8 figures at current valuation. wtf!

When I joined PE Ops a few years ago, I showed my offer to a couple people in the Industry I trusted. This benchmarking showed I was getting a very fair offer. They both said I could ask for more in a certain area, “but don’t push too hard…they can easily rescind”. Do you know someone with whom you can discuss and benchmark?
