Same thing happened to me. If the salary isn’t negotiable just say so. They led me to believe that they were considering it. After several days of evading me they told me they decided not to fill the position. The job was posted again 3 weeks later.
One firm told me they can pay an incredibly high number salary when approached me in July. I asked recruiter to confirm the salary because that firm is not famous for being generous on paying staff good. The paralegal manager reached out to me personally to explain how desperate the firm is. I agreed to interview with them but didn’t hear back till end of September. During those two months, that firm was trying to interview every single candidate requests 100K - (I have a friend works at that firm told me). I followed up and the para manager told me “we are moving slow now because of summer break.”Unfortunately, they couldn’t find anyone. Later, they reached out to me again and lied to me say “you are on top of our list and we want to interview you ASAP.” I rejected them. Firms always want to play the game so they can pay as less as they can.
