This is short-sighted. You don’t want to unnecessarily burn bridges; you don’t know when people you offend may be useful to you in the future (or speak poorly of you to someone who is). If you think it will make a difference, I think it is appropriate to civilly tell leadership/HR/etc… why you are leaving. Being civil will be more impactful, because people tend to be more willing to make changes when the criticism seems reasonable and constructive and not just heated and vindictive. Keep the more spicy complaints between your friends and family. They’re also much more likely to sympathize with that emotion than a company that will just write you off as a disgruntled employee.
Wow!!! With my time approaching to give my notice, I needed to read this. I have my notice sitting in my drafts. After reading this I’ll make edits. Thank you!
I agree you need to tell someone so you can get it off your chest but that someone isn't someone from the company. I would see if your company offers EAP. Talk to a coach or a therapist. If not, just talk to a friend or a family member.
Feel free to leave them a negative review or blast them on Glassdoor and/or Fishbowl anonymously too.
Very sad that no one speaks their truth - this allows the employer to pretend to themselves and other employees that there are no issues at the company. So you are doing a disservice to your former colleagues by making excuses (“an oppportunity I couldn’t say no to..”)
Depends on the type of business I guess and what you mean by 'toxic'. If they are doing something illegal and pushing you to your ethical boundaries, report it to the authorities. If you don't know where to go, I went to my local county attorneys office and let them know what I was experiencing at work and my concerns. Non-profits can possibly lose their non-profit status if you file a form with proof of concerning activity and it gets investigated. Then they'd lose most of their funding. If they're federally regulated because they're publically traded, well i'm sure theres tons of folks that can get the right contacts to call to turn that in on this app. It's called networking.
Every state is different with labor laws, so calling your local labor authority and explaining your concerns may have some impact.
So again, I don't know what they did to you for you to consider it a 'toxic' work environment, but you have options if it was illegal or considered abuse/harassment in the workplace.
Hold your tongue and leave on a good note, That will help if you have to claim unemployment. In my state that could save you 2-6 weeks in waiting for a check.
Yea h I did that and now I’m not getting rehired back. I mean that haven’t said that’s why. I just have a feeling. I could be wrong. But I keep bugging them for a job anyway.
Why would you want to go back?
Yeah jobs are so hard to get right now. I wish I would have done something different. Very good advice
If I hear must be able to
Multi task one more time. I might loose my mind.
You’ll be remembered as “that guy/girl” and it could follow you for the rest of your career. Don’t….
Watch “Jersey Girl” you can be Ben Afleck telling Will Smith off. Pay attention to his subsequent job interviews.
