I had 6 weeks when I was a manager approved for a Sabbatical (it was paid though). Needed time to reset after 9 years of absolutely killing myself.
I think timing is important…. If every company is doing restructuring/layoffs, maybe just wait till the waters calm to take your break. They’ve laid off women on maternity leave here.

I’ve worked at RSM and did something similar. HR was very easy to talk to about it and gave options from 4 weeks to 6 months.
Roughly when was that? PwC1 made a good point about considering timing.
Also what was your level at the time? Was your leave unpaid? And did you get any pushback or detriment to your advancement afterward?
I took 3 months off (unpaid) to travel with no issues. I can take up to 12 months of personal leave for any reason. I think the key is to give sufficient notice.
Exactly. My concern is taking leave would be tantamount to signing my resignation or waiving goodbye to making partner (my next step) due to some prejudice that it could indicate I’m not committed or can’t cut it.
