Thats not unheard of. That depends on the client, what their industry is, and what other needs that may have or want. I think the thing here is that even in these days & times experience still pays
Yes for military..
Never heard of it. Must be a big risk involved for that pay
Yes and be ready to have no life. As long as you're prepared to live for work and only work it's entirely possible. I knew a guy who did private security for the old baseball player Nolan Ryan and he made in excess of that. That being said he left after a short time because he would get calls at all hours of the night and on extremely short notice to get up and be ready to fly with Mr. Ryan somewhere.
You know whats funny, here where I live in Canada, private security companies actually force you to "be on call' during your days off (not being paid, mind you), so that if they are in trouble they can have you fill up a gap...
And that is for a 19$/h job...
So yeah, being 'on call' basically means you can't go out or do anything because you *might* get called to work. And refusing to go in if they call you during such a day can and will get you fired.
I'm thinking about entering the same field. Private security. I have 8 years experience in the US Army as an infantryman. Spent 13 months in Iraq doing multiple jobs including body guard security.
